Shooting suspect dies in separate incident
PLAQUEMINE - Authorities said the prime suspect in a shooting last month in Plaquemine died after he was shot Monday night.
Darnell Paige, 39, arrived at the station just before midnight having been shot three times in the chest and side, Capt. Kenny Payne said. The woman driving the car ran into the station and asked for help. Officers called an ambulance for Paige, and he died at a local hospital.
They learned the shooting had happened on Bourgeois Street when a man walked up to the car and shot Paige. The woman driving the car and another woman in the front passenger seat were uninjured.
A few minutes later, shots were fired into Paige's home on Nats Alley. No one was hurt in that shooting, Payne said.
Paige was the prime suspect in a shooting about a month ago in the same area. Another man was injured in that case, and police are still investigating. Payne would not say what the motive for that shooting is believed to have been.
Paige was from Harvey, but had been living in Plaquemine for about six months, Payne said.
