Sheriff: Multiple inmates helped in escape
AMITE - Sheriff Daniel Edwards said Tuesday that a number of inmates helped an accused murderer escape the Tangipahoa Parish Jail recently, and they're still investigating the case.
Authorities in Mississippi caught Verdale Moore, 20, on Monday after he escaped the jail Sunday night. Moore faces first-degree murder charges for a shooting in February.
On Tuesday, Edwards said Moore's escape was discovered within an hour after it happened, and that several other inmates helped him get away from the jail. Edwards said the escape happened despite the four jail checks they do every day.
Moore is currently awaiting extradition from Pike County, Miss. back to Louisiana.
News 2's Jason Newton will have more on the investigation tonight starting at 4 p.m.
