Young man's body found badly beaten could be ID'd today
DONALDSONVILLE - Sheriff Jeff Wiley told News 2 Thursday that a body found on an Ascension Parish levee was too badly beaten for them to make a quick identification.
Deputies found the body of a young black male on the levee near Donaldsonville Thursday afternoon. Wiley said the body had also been exposed to the elements for some time, making it more difficult to tell who the victim was.
Authorities removed the body from the levee just before 5 p.m. They said dental records would have to be used to identify the victim.
Dontracy Carter saw the body before it was removed and believes the death has something to do with the disappearance of Brandon Augusta, 14. Augusta was last seen Sunday and deputies have been searching for him after issuing a missing persons bulletin earlier this week.
"What happened here today is sad, and what happened here this week is sad," Carter said Thursday evening. "It don't make sense."
The discovery was made not far from where Augusta was last seen.
Deputies could make a positive identification Friday.
