ST. JAMES - St. James deputies say they found the body of 12-year-old Talaija Dorsey after six days of searching.

Officials say she was found at around 10:20 a.m. in a sugar cane field in the Vacherie area.

At a press conference, St. James Sheriff Willy Martin said, "it didn't end the way we prayed and hoped it would."

Martin said State Police will process the scene and should have more information in about a day. Deputies believe Dorsey was in the cane field since the day she went missing.

The Sheriff's office also says autopsy results will show a cause of death. Those results should be in by Monday.

"We were hopeful she ran away," said Martin.

Dorsey had been missing since Tuesday at around 5 a.m. Her mom first noticed she was missing when a friend came by looking for Dorsey and she wasn't there.

Now deputies are left putting the pieces together to find out how this happened. John Celestine, the fiance of Dorsey's mother, was arrested during the investigation on obstruction of justice charges. A family member told News 2 one of Dorsey's slippers was found in Celestine's van.

Celestine is now considered a suspect in the case.

Sheriff's departments, state police and the FBI have all played a part in the search.
