ZACHARY - East Baton Rouge sheriff's deputies say a Central man, William Bottoms, 25, was arrested after he held a man at gunpoint and tried to rob him.

Officials say Bottoms went to the victim's car and told him to give up his cash. When the victim said all he had was debit cards, Bottoms made him drive to an ATM. Bottoms got out of the car and the victim took the chance to drive away. Bottoms fired 5 or 6 rounds at the victim's vehicle.

Bottoms tried to run when law enforcement located him at an alcohol store in Zachary, but deputies were able to catch him after a foot chase.

Deputies say this happened after the victim had sex with a prostitute that Bottoms was dealing drugs to, and the prostitute led him to Bottoms's house. Officials found Bottoms was carrying a syringe, heroin, and xanax. The prostitute was taken into custody but was not booked into jail.

Bottoms was booked on charges of attempted 1st degree murder, armed robbery, several drug related charges, and resisting an officer. No bond has been set.
