Sheriff admits wrong imprisonment
MERCED, CA - A sheriff admits a mistake of arresting a teen on a warrant for a murder charge he had already been cleared of, and he's looking into what went wrong.
Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke says Jacob Tellez spent the night in jail over the weekend after a warrant was not properly cleared from a law enforcement database.
Last year, a judge cleared Tellez and another man of murder in the killing of Bernabed Hernandez-Canela. The other man cleared is the son of the county district attorney.
Tellez's newest arrest came two days after he sued for damages against the county for civil rights violations.
