St. Martin Parish Sheriff Ronnie Theriot says a deputy accused of extorting oral sex has resigned.

Theriot says Steven Dale resigned last week. Dale had been on administrative leave since May 26, the day of the alleged incident.

A prosecutor told The Advocate that officials expect to decide by next Friday whether to prosecute.

The woman said Dale and another deputy answered her call about a disturbance with a man. After the other deputy left with the man, she told the newspaper, Dale returned and threatened to arrest her unless she had oral sex with him.

Dale does not have a listed number and could not be reached for comment.
