Sheriff: 3 arrested for stealing cell phones from Wal Mart
CENTRAL - East Baton Rouge deputies say two people broke into the electronics case at Wal Mart and stole more than $14,000 of cell phones.
They were stolen from the Wal Mart on Sullivan Road and Wax Road in Central on January 4th.
Officials say the phones were sold to Gardere Communications on Gardere Lane in Baton Rouge. Deputies found the stolen phones and sales records of them on Wednesday.
Owner of the store Safwan Abukahla, 29, was arrested for illegal possession of stolen things. 2 14-year-olds were arrested for stealing the phones.
Detectives say they have an arrest warrant out for Latarsha Dennis, 36, for principle to theft and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Officials say Dennis helped the teens sell the phones to Abukahla. Dennis is related to the juveniles.
Sheriff's deputies believe the teens and Dennis also committed thefts in other parishes and that charges from other agencies may be pending.
Abukahla was released Thursday on a $25,000 bond.
Anyone with information about Dennis or other details about the case is asked to contact the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office at 389-5000.
