BATON ROUGE- Reverend Al Sharpton took the stage in the midst of the controversy of the Southern University New Orleans/UNO proposed merger, and the near by community struggle with the city over the sewage plant in their back yards.
While Sharpton did not make it in time to see the demonstration, he did speak to the struggle of a small community going up against their government saying, "there is the misnomer that you need to have everybody with you to make a difference
The reverend had a specific message when it comes to merger of Southern University New Orleans and UNO. Sharpton told News 2, "it was an outright assault on people of color in this state. Certainly the move does not represent what you would expect of a governor with the percentage of blacks in this state."
