BATON ROUGE - Southern University Student Government President Simone Bray visited 2une In Tuesday to explain students' reaction to the system board's latest decision regarding Chancellor James Llorens.

Impassioned pleas and support for Llorens did not sway board members into extending his contract Monday.

The vote means Llorens will leave the university in June. It's the second time this month the board chose not to extend the SU Baton Rouge chancellor's term at the campus.

The board took public comments at Monday's special meeting from Southern students, faculty, and foundation members before heading into an hours-long executive session. System President Ronald Mason scheduled Monday's special meeting after student outcry the decision not to keep Llorens, which included a sit-in protest at Mason's office.

Llorens said before he took issue with the president's offer, which the chancellor believed would give Mason too much control over the trouble Baton Rouge campus. Mason said he wanted to get the system more involved in solving problems at Southern University.
