Sex Offender Fees to Raise
SULPHUR - The city plans to raise its renewal fee for registered sex offenders from $60 to $200.
Councilman Stuart Moss tells The American Press that the City Council's vote, expected in September, will affect sex offenders who are already living inside the city. It also will apply a one-time $600 fee to sex offenders moving into Sulphur.
Police Chief Lewis Coats says his department doesn't have adequate staffing to fill a full-time position to monitor sex offenders, and the increased fee will help with overtime costs and training to monitor sex offenders.
