Sex offender continues to evade registration system
GONZALES - Authorities in Ascension are still trying to track down one sex offender for failing to register as a sex offender in Ascension.
Ascension Sheriff's Office said 36-year-old Wade Pardue ducked law enforcement for not registering for the database twice. They say he's currently the only man in the parish that has not registered. He was released from the Tangipahoa parish jail back in February and was planning to live in Ascension parish.
Officials said he was convicted of carnal knowledge of a juvenile back in 1999. He's also been convicted twice for failing to register as a sex offender four years ago. Official said once released he came in for the initial interview but has not gone back to properly register.
Like other agencies, Ascension Sheriff's office says once offenders are released they have a way to track them down and make sure they register especially if they plan to live in the parish.
"We have officers here who are assigned to sex offender registration," said Lt. Col. Bobby Webre, Ascension Sheriff's Office. "Once they're released, they have to notify us and we get notified by either probation or parole or jail officials saying we're releasing someone who needs to register."
Officials said they also do multiple spot checks throughout the year to keep track of those that have registered, and the ones that are in the process of registering.
"There are three tiers," said Col. Webre. "Tier one is the least serious and their obligation is to check with us once a year but as we're out doing our spot checks we'll go check on them and that's just one of the reasons we found that he actually wasn't living in the address he claim to be living."
In Baton Rouge, there are more than a thousand registered sex offenders. If an offender fails to register they could face two to ten years in jail.
