Serena Williams fined for outburst
Serena Williams has been fined $82,500 for her tirade during the U.S. Open in September. Williams lashed out at an official, using profanity and finger-pointing, after a foot-fault call at the end of her semifinal loss.
She could be suspended from the tournament if she has another major offense, according to Grand Slam administrator Bill Babcock. The previous highest fine for a Grand Slam offense was $48,000, to Jeff Tarango.
Now, Williams faces a probationary period at four major tennis championships in 2010 and 2011.
