Senate budget committee stalls Medicaid program
BATON ROUGE- A proposal for Louisiana to tap into federal health overhaul money available for expanding Medicaid has been stalled by senators.
The Senate Finance Committee rejected the bill Monday, with all but one Republican voting against expansion.
The measure would seek federal approval to use the expansion money to provide private insurance coverage to adults earning up to 138 percent of the poverty level - less than $32,000 for a family of four - with the federal government covering most of the tab.
A similar proposal is scheduled for a House vote this week.
