Semi's camera captures moment RV lost control on I-10
SORRENTO - Dash cam video from a semi captured the moment the tire of a camper failed, causing the vehicle to crash and flip over on I-10 Monday.
The video shows the RV, originally traveling westbound, veer into the median of I-10, cross onto the eastbound lanes and eventually overturn after hitting cable barriers. The crash created a field of debris, seen flying around in the video. The video ends shortly after the RV slides on its side down the pavement, just as the truck driver pulls onto the side of the highway.
State Police said the driver, a 69-year-old from Texas, and his passenger suffered minor injuries.
Troopers said the video shows the cable barriers were able to stop a more horrific crash from happening.
"While not designed for heavy articulated vehicles like a motor home, the system was able to redirect a vehicle weighing over 20,000 pounds," the agency said.
The crash closed I-10 during the middle of the day Monday.
