DENHAM SPRINGS - Emergency officials said hundreds of gallons of crude oil spilled after a tanker truck overturned in Denham Springs Monday morning.

Livingston Parish emergency director Mark Harrell said the truck spilled more than 90 percent of its load of light, sweet crude into a ditch on Linder Road near Arnold Road. The truck normally carries 125 barrels of crude.

Witnesses said the truck rolled over into the ditch around 7 a.m. and the wreck punched a hole in the tank. They said it had just finished filling up with oil from a facility in the area. No injuries were reported, and the truck was righted around 1:15 p.m.

The snafu was caught on video surveillance.  Cameras at a nearby gas station recorded the truck toppling over.

Crews worked for much of Monday and planned to work overnight and into Tuesday to remove the mess.  Officials said there is not health risk at this time.
