Second victim dies in Muses parade shooting
NEW ORLEANS - Police in New Orleans say a second person has died after a shooting last night along the uptown Mardi Gras parade route, which resulted in one arrest.
NOPD spokesperson Frank Robertson said 19-year-old John Hicks has been charged with the deadly shooting.
Investigators said Hicks was in an altercation around 10 p.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of St. Charles when he pulled out a gun and shot two people. Both were rushed to the hospital, but died from their injuries.
Police said officers spotted Hicks running from the scene and detained him, also recovering a weapon.
The shooting happened during the Muses parade, which traditionally kicks off the Carnival weekend in New Orleans. The parade continued as additional barriers were set up by responding officers.
