BATON ROUGE – A second person has died following a Friday morning crash on I-110.

Police said Monday, Joshua Wheeler died from injuries related to the crash.  Wheeler was hit head-on by a driver going the wrong way on the interstate.  Wheeler died after spending the weekend in the hospital.

Joseph Burnette, 44, was also killed in the wreck. Burnette was one of three who stopped to help after an initial crash.

Police said the first crash was caused by a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer traveling the wrong way down the north bound lanes of I-110 between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.  The driver of that vehicle hit Wheeler's vehicle head-on.

As the group of people were helping those injured in the first wreck, a passing 18-wheeler hit the vehicles.  Burnette was pinned between the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene.

Wheeler was an EMT.

A second good Samaritan remains in the hospital. Family members asked WBRZ to solicit prayers for him, but said they were not ready to talk publicly about what happened.

Alcohol and speed are not suspected as a factor for the driver of the semi but impairment is suspected of the driver of the Mitsubishi involved in the first crash.  Though, police said no charges have been filed yet.

No charges have been filed due to the ongoing investigation, according to police.

EDITOR's NOTE: A previous version of this story identified Wheeler as someone who stopped to help.  Though, later it was clarified he was the driver of the vehicle initially hit by the other vehicle.
