SEC honors Newton, Lester and Peterson

The Southeastern Conference named Auburn quarterback Cam Newton, Alabama safety Robert Lester and LSU cornerback/return man Patrick Peterson players of the week.

Newton passed for 158 yards and ran for 176, accounting for five touchdowns in a win over South Carolina.

Lester had two interceptions and seven tackles in Alabama's victory at Arkansas.

His second pick set up the go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Peterson had a 60-yard punt return for a touchdown and partially blocked a field goal in LSU's win over West Virginia.

Mississippi State offensive tackle Derek Sherrod was offensive lineman of the week, Auburn's Mike Blanc won defensive honors and Florida's Trey Burton was the top freshman.
