Searchers find body of bayou jumper
GROSSE TETE - This morning searchers in Iberville Parish found the body of a man who leaped into a bayou, leaving behind a car with thousands in counterfeit cash inside.
Authorities found the body just after 10 a.m. today, after suspending the search last night.
Deputies pulled over a vehicle early Tuesday morning on I-10 East for a traffic violation. They arrested the driver, Elesha D. Gunn of Texas, but said the male passenger took off into the woods.
Investigators got a tip the man was seen in the Grosse Tete area, and when they cornered him he jumped into Bayou Grosse Tete and quickly went under the water.
Authorities said they found around $2,500 worth of counterfeit money in the vehicle, and charged Gunn with monetary instrument abuse.
News 2's Rob Krieger will have an update on the investigation tonight on News 2 at 5 and 6.
