Search underway for missing swimmer in Mississippi River
NEW ORLEANS- Authorities are searching for a man who disappeared while swimming in the Mississippi River in New Orleans on Tuesday night.
Port of New Orleans official Matt Gresham says authorities from multiple agencies, including New Orleans police and fire, the Coast Guard and Emergency Medical Services were searching by boat and helicopter for the man Tuesday night.
Witnesses say they saw the man's head disappear under the water around 7 p.m. near the Steamboat Natchez dock, causing people to call 911 for help.
