Search for missing inmate winding down
SLIDELL - The search is winding down for an inmate that escaped from the West Feliciana Parish jail this past Sunday.
Authorities had concentrated efforts in St. Tammany Parish after an acquaintance of David St. Germain said he had been in the area. K9 units had tracked him to a heavily wooded area that was combed over by deputies, U. S. Marshals and helicopters for almost two days, but with no results.
Now Sheriff J. Austin Daniel says deputies will search the woods again over the weekend, but after that will just investigate sightings or leads called in.
"He could be holed up in someone's house or have caught a ride out of the area," Austin told News 2, "I just know he's not in my jail."
Authorities say on Jan. 2, St. Germain escaped through a hole in a jail fence. He was being held for violating parole from an earlier theft conviction.
Anyone with information as to his location should contact your local law enforcement.
