PORT HUDSON - Hundreds of Boy Scout Troops and other organizations congregated at the Port Hudson Cemetery in effort to prep for Memorial Day events to take place Monday.

Local scouts placed American flags along the grave sites of veterans that lost paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country. It is a standing tradition for over 30 years according to participants who says the prep work inspires respect from younger generations.

"It helps them understand the sacrifice that has been made for this country and for them and their families," said Louisiana Complex Director Maurice Roan.

For one wounded veteran who attended the event, observing the effort from the scouts could only bring a smile to his face.

"I loved it I really did," said Marine veteran Reverand David Michael. "Memorial Day is a time we pause to give thanks to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice that we can have these things."
