Scores in New Orleans Brown-Garner 'die-in'
NEW ORLEANS - Scores of people protested the deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of police in New York and Ferguson, Missouri, with a "die-in" at a ritzy New Orleans mall.
About 50 lay down under the Christmas tree and across the floor at Canal Place, where shops include Tiffany & Co. and Saks Fifth Avenue. The protesters clapped and chanted "Black lives matter" and "No justice, no peace," and "I can't breathe" - the repeated last words of Eric Garner, whose videotaped chokehold death sparked protests across the country.
Some shopkeepers closed their doors during the half-hour protest Friday night.
The group walked from Canal Place to the Riverwalk outlet mall, where more people joined in protests on both levels.
