Scientists working to ID skeletal remains found in Natchitoches
NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) - Natchitoches Parish investigators are reviewing missing person cases as they work to identify human skeletal remains found in the woods near the Ajax community.
A forester working in the area made the discovery Friday.
Natchitoches authorities got help from Mary Manhein, director of the LSU Forensic Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services Lab in Baton Rouge, with recovery of the remains.
The remains have been taken to the FACES lab for analysis.
The Shreveport Times reports that Manhein's initial assessment is that the remains are those of a slim white male between 30 and 45 years old.
She estimates the remains had been in the location from two to five years.
A cause of death has not been determined.
