School releases email on injured player, situation
BATON ROUGE- University High sent an email to members of its school community Thursday, discussing the situation surrounding a U High football player injured in a mysterious incident last weekend.
D'Vante Dotson was found in a pool of blood in a park on Perkins Road. He had a head injury and was taken to an area hospital.
Police said he was drinking and may have fallen down, but do not believe what happened to him was anything criminal. But, people have taken to social media websites to refute that, claiming Dotson was a victim of a hate crime.
Police, the Dotson family, and Thursday U High have spoken against the rumors circulating on sites like Facebook and Twitter.
The school said in its email, "all posts of an offensive or threatening nature are being forwarded to the proper law enforcement agencies."
Wednesday, Baton Rouge Police said the online rumors are detrimental to the investigation, and if people know something other than what is being reported, they should speak with investigators. So far, BRPD said no one has provided any information other than that the situation involved only Dotson.
Dotson is recovering from the injuries.
