PRAIRIEVILLE - An unusual fire drill at the Prairieville elementary gave kids and firefighters a taste of what a real fire would look and feel like.

The Prairieville fire department held a 30 minute drill at Prairieville elementary using a non-toxic smoke. Fire officials said the smoke is used to display a more realistic role. Students were able to participate by pretending to be victims that needed treatment.

First-responders said these drills are crucial for both students and firefighters.

"We want to make sure that they know it's not a joke, said Prairieville fire training coordinator Frank Dellucky. "It's the same with our firefighters, we need to make sure that they are prepared when they get into a school if in fact there actually is a fire."
