BATON ROUGE – A 21-year-old woman who had worked for several months as a teacher's assistant at an area private school, was charged Tuesday with two 2015 rapes of a ten-year-old boy.

Harlie Vanosdell was booked into jail overnight on two counts of first-degree rape.

According to social media and confirmed by the school later, Vanosdell worked for the past few months at St. Patrick's Episcopal Day School. Her last day was Monday, school authorities said.

Booking records outlining the allegations are too disturbing to publish, but report the young child – a boy – told both his mother and a child specialist the abuse happened twice two years ago. Both times, he said, Vanosdell forced him to perform sexual acts on her and also made him fondle her.

Vanosdell, the boy said, would call him “daddy” during the encounters.

The child said he was concerned she would hurt him if he reported the crime, but finally felt comfortable enough to say something later – although, deputies noted his conversation with the child specialist made him visibly uneasy.

The school said Vanosdell passed a criminal background check before behing hired. The crime did not have a connection to the school, and Father Ashley Freeman said he has reviewed the situation and is confident that students were not affected.

East Baton Rouge Parish court records do not indicate any prior criminal cases involving Vanosdell.
