School employee arrested after beating student with belt
BATON ROUGE – A school employee was arrested for cruelty to juvenile charges after beating a student with a belt.
On Monday around 11 p.m., Baton Rouge Police officers responded to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in reference to a battery of a teenage boy that happened earlier in the day at a school on North Lobdell Boulevard. The 13-year-old boy told officers that he was hit while at school by a school employee, 25-year-old Antoine Weatherspoon.
The boy told officers that he was taken to the "time out room" where Weatherspoon tried to hit him with a belt. The boy was able to block several of the lashes causing Weatherspoon to become upset and began punching the boy in the arm. Officers also learned that the boy had multiple bruises and scratches on his arms and legs.
Officers were able to contact two witnesses that confirmed Weatherspoon hit the boy repeatedly.
