LULING, La.- Nearly seven years after it was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, the land lab at Luling Elementary School soon will be replaced.

Reports the science lab was damaged by wind when Katrina struck in August 2005.

John Rome, executive director of physical plant services for the school system, said the lab was a total loss.

Funding for the new lab - more than $900,000 - is coming from the Louisiana Recovery Authority.

About $100,000 of the money will go toward architectural and engineering fees, testing, surveys and other costs, with the rest in construction of the approximately 4,600-square-foot building.

The lab will include a preparation area, a computer lab and a classroom.
