BATON ROUGE- A school here is considering arming itself to protect students and staff. Hosanna Christian Academy is looking into buying a gun.

School administrators started looking into other ways to keep the school grounds secure after the shooting in Newtown, CT, last week.

"We felt like we had a rock solid plan in place before, but as soon as this happened we... met and discussed it," said Josh LaSage, a school administrator.

One option, was a gun.

"We have contemplated keeping a fire arm in our school's front office under lock and key, where only a trained professional could have it," said LaSage.

Students would never know the gun was there, or ever have access to it.

LaSage hopes it would let the school react in the event there was an unthinkable emergency.

"It would provide an avenue potentially to stop something like this from happening," he said.
Parents said, it's the unfortunate part of a changing world.

"I don't like guns period. I don't prefer for my kids to have toy guns but if that's what they have to do to ensure the safety of the kids, I'm all for it," said Mieko Williams.

"I would absolutely support it. I mean we have a right to protect ourselves," said Cotina Marshall.
Both women have kids at the school.

"It is sad we would even have to have that discussion at an administrative level but that's not a silver bullet, there is no silver bullet," LaSage said.
