A state Senate committee has approved a bill that would allow concealed
handguns near schoolyards and college campuses.

State law bans concealed handguns within 1,000 feet of a school's campus.

The proposal (Senate Bill 81) by Sen. Danny Martiny, R-Kenner, would limit the concealed weapons restriction to the campus itself.
