LIVINGSTON - The school board president, arrested for leaving the scene of a crash where a man died in St. Helena Parish, missed his first public appearance since the incident.

Malcolm Sibley was not present for Thursday's meeting where the board approved next year's budget.

Sibley is charged with felony hit and run after Cody Lasigi, 21, of Liberty, Mississippi died in a crash on La. 43 just north of Greensburg, La.

State Police said Lasigi and two others, Jarrett Wilson, 23, of Osyka, Miss. and Trey Bailey, 21, were parked and arguing in the highway.

At the meeting, Sibley's absence was not discussed. The only indications Sibley was absent came during roll call and an empty chair at the front of the room.

System Superintendent John Watson did not want to talk about the attention put on the board lately.

"I'll give you the same kind of comment I've given for the past week. Our hearts and prayers and thoughts are with those families involved in that incident," Watson said.

All of Sibley's colleagues on the school board also declined to comment.
