ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) - The West Feliciana Parish School Board has adopted an ordinance to begin collecting a new half-cent sales tax that voters approved Saturday.
The 10-year tax, which raises the school board's total sales tax levy to 3 percent, passed by a vote of 1,331 to 568.
Vendors will begin collecting the new tax from their customers on July 1.
Voters also backed a 3.75-mill property tax renewal by a 70 percent margin. The tax is used to fund a $3,000 salary supplement for employees with teaching certificates and a $2,000 supplement for other employees.
On Tuesday, Superintendent Hollis G. Milton thanked the community for supporting the tax.
