NEW YORK- What was Hurricane Sandy is now Superstorm Sandy and has knocked-out power to a hospital and some 1.5 million people along the East Coast.
New York Mayor Mayor Michael Bloomberg asked residents to only call 911 if "it was a matter of life or death," and implored people to stay off streets Monday night.
Rain is tapering off in the city and the storm surge was expected to recede my midnight.
But, some Subway tunnels have been flooded. The New Jersey Port Authority posted a picture on a social media account of water pouring into a station.
Sandy made landfall near Atlantic City, NJ about 8 p.m. EST.
