Sandbags available in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE - Sandbags are available to Baton Rouge residents looking to protect their homes from heavy rains expected this weekend.
The current forecast for Tropical Depression Number 13 indicates that the storm may strengthen within the next 24 - 48 hours and is expected to drop 10 - 20 inches of rain along the gulf coast.
Sandbags will be placed at the following locations throughout the Parish:
• Baton Rouge Fire Department Station # 6 - 3820 Gus Young Avenue
• Baton Rouge Fire Department Station #15 - 3150 Brightside Lane
• Alsen/ St. Irma Lee Fire Station - 674 Old Rafe Mayer Road
• St. George Station # 65 - 1506 Seaboard Drive
• District 6 Fire Station (51) - 7878 Prescott Road
Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden reminds citizens to use the "Buddy System" and check on those friends and neighbors who might have difficulty during any hazardous event.
The Mayor also encourages City-Parish residents to be "personally prepared" by having enough supplies on hand for longer than 72 hours, in the event of severe power outages.
The Mayor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (MOHSEP) will continue to coordinate with local and state officials throughout the duration of this weather event.
