BATON ROUGE – The Salvation Army is accepting donations at Cortana Mall for those in need following the severe weather and flooding in the state.

The shelter is accepting toiletries, water, and monetary donations at the mall starting at 9 a.m until 7 p.m. . Donation items will be loaded onto a truck and taken directly to the impacted areas. Other donation items that will be accepted are toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, and cleaning supplies can all be dropped off at the location.

The Salvation Army says the group needs a large amount of volunteers Wednesday with the magnitude of donations that are coming in.

"We know they need these items right now, having been forced from their homes by the rising water," said Captain Brett Meredith, Greater Baton Rouge Corps Command Officer. "Plus, any monetary donations will help us purchase supplies to feed these folks in the coming days and weeks of recovery," Meredith said.

Salvation Army asks that diapers and used clothing or not dropped off at this time. Those who wish to donate can do so by going to http://give.salvationarmyusa.org/gulf_coast_floods.

Wednesday the group will be serving lunch and dinner at the following locations:

Baton Rouge:

Charles R. Kelly Center @ 3535 Riley

Hope Ministries @ 4643 Winbourne Ave.

Denham Springs:

Christ Community Church- Juban

Pards North Park- Eden Church Rd
