St. Mary Parish residents will get the chance to hear more about a proposal to store natural gas in the Cote Blanche salt dome during a public hearing on Tuesday.
The hearing will be hosted by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and is part of the permitting process that Henry Gas Storage must go through in order to build caverns and store natural gas in the dome.
The proposal has met resistance from the North American Salt Co. as well as the Louisiana Environmental Action Network, which has raised concerns about the impact of the project and resulting brine on the surrounding wildlife and environment.
The public hearing will be held at the West St. Mary Civic Center in Jeanerette.
