LIVINGSTON - The Livingston Parish Council has approved a one-cent sales tax increase to help pay for development of a new retail center.
Developers of the Juban Crossing retail center asked the parish for the increase after being turned down by the state.
Supporters of the tax said the shopping center will bring more jobs and money to Livingston Parish, spurring economic growth. Critics say it won't spur growth, and instead just move existing retail dollars to a different area.
News 2's Ashley Rodrigue is at the meeting and will have more details coming up tonight on News 2 at 10.
