METAIRIE, La. (AP) - New Orleans interim coach Joe Vitt says his forced time away from New Orleans Saints was agony and that he found no way to fill the void.
So once his six-game bounty-related suspension ended, Vitt did not wait an extra second to rejoin the team. He flew back with the Saints after their 35-28 win at Tampa Bay on Sunday. New Orleans has won two in a row under offensive line coach Aaron Kromer, but still has a long way to go to get back into playoff contention.
First on Vitt's agenda is fixing a defense that is last in the NFL in yards allowed, giving up 465.5 yards per game - including 513 to Tampa Bay.
New Orleans (2-4) plays at Denver on Sunday night.
