The New Orleans Saints have signed former Tampa Bay defensive end Jimmy Wilkerson.
Saints spokesman Greg Bensel says the 29-year-old Wilkerson, who visited the club last week, has signed a one-year deal.
Wilkerson has played seven seasons in the NFL, the first five with Kansas City and the past two with NFC South Division rival Tampa Bay.
Wilkerson is the second veteran defensive end to join the Saints during free agency. The first was Alex Brown, formerly of the Chicago Bears.
The Saints have been looking to build depth at the position since the release of Charles Grant at the start of the free agency period.
