Saints eager to test running game in scrimmage
METAIRIE - The Saints are about to get a better sense of whether all their talk about improving their running game is amounting to much on the field.
After eight days of training camp in which contact was limited, New Orleans lines up for a scrimmage on Saturday.
All-Pro guard Jahri Evans says he expects the running game to be "a point of emphasis" this preseason because the team was unhappy ranking 25th in rushing last season.
While Drew Brees has been a prolific passer, the Saints have won more when they've been able to run consistently.
In three of four playoff seasons since 2006, they ran the ball more than 40 percent of the time. They ran less than that while missing the playoffs in 2007, 2008 and 2012.
