RSD leader working with EBR board on failing schools
BATON ROUGE- East Baton Rouge Parish School Board members received an olive branch from the state's Recovery School District leader Wednesday.
John White offered to work with board members to determine the future of failing schools. He says there are 30 in East Baton Rouge Parish not making the grade. Seven of those have already been taken over by the RSD. Now, five are in jeopardy and White wants the school district to pitch-in on a plan to deal with them.
The board says funding cuts, over-capacity not identifying successful students is leading to failing classes. Addressing those concerns were part of their solutions. White says he's willing to take suggestions, even if they differ from his own, in order to find the best way to handle schools on the fence.
There's no timeline on when White will make a recommendation to the state's top school board, BESE, but he's vowed to set that up with EBR so everyone is on the same page.
