BATON ROUGE - Roselawn Monuments' statue of Jesus stands on its pedestal once again after its theft about a week ago.
"It's kind of ironic," said Shelly Roy, the statue's owner. "Christ appeared three days after He was crucified, and this statue was returned about three and a half days after it went missing."
Roy hopes improved cameras, better lighting and a stronger adhesive will make the statue harder to uproot.
It has been at Roselawn for so long, Roy almost didn't notice it was missing.
"I came to work Monday morning and really didn't notice anything was missing," Roy said. "And about mid-morning I was out on the front display with a client, and I said,
'somebody stole Jesus. He's gone.' It's just always been there, and always will be I guess."
The statue was made in Italy and shipped to America around 1950, but its most recent, and most perilous, journey is over.
