Rooftop pool hoisted onto downtown building
BATON ROUGE - A more than 10,000 pound pool was installed on top of the Commerce Building in downtown Baton Rouge Thursday.
Work first began on the more than 60-year-old building in November of 2014. The structure is being renovated to be a 93-unit apartment building with a fitness center for tenants and restaurant.
"There was a lot of additional structural elements we had to add to the building to basically reinforce it to bring it up to today's codes," said Matt Jones, Project Manager with Milton J. Womack construction company.
The stainless steele pool is 49 feet long and 12 feet wide. Once it's filled with water, it will be four feet deep.
The project is expected to be complete by the beginning of 2016.
