CONCORD, N.H. - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is defending his decision not to discuss the Afghanistan war in his convention speech. And he says President Barack Obama should use his convention speech to "report on the promises he made."

Romney on Thursday visited veterans in New Hampshire. Asked why he did not mention Afghanistan in his convention address last week, Romney said his remarks to the American Legion the previous night demonstrated his commitment to the military. Romney was the first Republican nominee since 1952 to not mention war during his convention speech.

Romney says he doesn't plan to watch Obama's address because the president hasn't followed through on his 2008 promises. He says he would consider watching if Obama would assess his performance on those promises instead of making new ones.
