Robber tries to steal diaper bag
SLIDELL - A man who claimed he needed money to pay his probation fees robbed a woman at gunpoint early Monday morning, according to Slidell Police.
Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at around 9:30 a.m. at Forestwood Apartments, a few blocks from the Slidell Police Department.
The 30-year-old victim said she was holding her infant when she was approached by 18-year-old Terry Jones. She told police Jones shoved a pistol into her chest and demanded her purse, but realized after grabbing it that it was a diaper bag with nothing of value inside.
Police said Jones ran from the scene and was caught when he ran directly into a Slidell Police officer responding to the call. Jones surrendered without incident, and detectives said he told them he was looking for money to pay his probation fees from a previous narcotics arrest.
Jones was booked into the city jail and is charged with one count of armed robbery. He will be transferred to St. Tammany Parish Jail, where his bond will be set.
