Road work widens in Livingston Parish
DENHAM SPRINGS- Road work continues in Livingston Parish where Eden Church Road is currently under construction and a new project on Juban Road was approved.
The parish council approved work to widen Juban road and a supplemental agreement for Eden Church Road, which saves the parish nearly $400,000.
The parish was slated to spend nearly $500,000 on Eden Church Road improvements, but will only spend $71,000 thanks to the new agreement. The state will pick up the tab for the Juban Road widening.
"Whenever there's a wreck on the interstate, Juban is packed, Florida boulevard is packed and then there's wrecks," said Asad Sheikha, who runs the Juban Express convenience store at the corner of Juban and Florida.
Sheikha hopes the work will ease some of the stress for his customers and bring in more business. That's something that's echoed by road-side vendor Erin Corkern.
"It'd be better on sales wise, not just me, but for other people in the area," said Corkern, who sells peaches and shrimp near the intersection.
The work on Eden Church Road is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
