Road shut down after workers hit gas line
BATON ROUGE - Police closed a portion of highway near LSU after workers pierced a gas line in the area this evening.
Police closed West McKinley Street between Ilinois Street and Nicholson while HazMat crews responded to the leak. The nearby section of railroad was also closed until the leak is addressed.
Workers were driving pilings into the ground near the sewage treatment plant when they struck the gas line, according to reports.
Curt Monte with the Baton Rouge Fire Department said there were no evacuations in the area at this time.
