Road repair and rain create EBR traffic nightmare
BATON ROUGE - What started as an emergency highway repair Thursday morning turned into a wet, miles-long snarl of bumper to bumper traffic in East Baton Rouge.
The Department of Transportation and Development sent out a notice around 10 a.m. that one lane would be closed on I-10 West two miles past the Lobdell exit in West Baton Rouge Parish in order to repair the roadway.
Traffic steadily built back across the Mississippi River Bridge into East Baton Rouge Parish throughout the day. Then heavy rain moved through the area around 2:30 p.m., slowing traffic even further.
DOTD reported that just before 4 p.m. westbound I-10 traffic was backed up from the close two miles past LA-415 all the way back past Essen in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Traffic officials said drivers should use US 190 as an alternate route around the closure.
